the image (iol days) that comes so strong inside me
ofourse-
on the unit

haven't been there long
weeks maybe
still wear only a few different clothes-and sleep in them
jeans-torn or written on/ a flannel shirt.
unit is a little chilly.

i remember
on the couch
in the dayroom
gold-brown woven fabric
smoke filled and aged
i lie down
tired
no
but-..not sure
a little numb sometimes there
lie there
knees bent in
arms folded up near head
and hands balled up tight
in fists
protecting
strong
safe
..i don't know
but i remember it
i didn't lie there that often
but i remember this specific time
and the steel bound-to-nothing fists
tight harnessing home-clothes
wrapped cold
--keep away.
stay far away

but don't leave me alone
